Knotty Macramé Shell Earrings

Introduction and Supplies

Luckily, I live near the ocean so I can pull myself away from jewelry making every once in a while to beach comb, and that’s where I found these two shells, complete with holes. In fact, if you do any shell hunting on the beach than you probably noticed that many of the shells that wash up on shore already have holes in them because that’s how the animal who originally lived there got out.

If you don’t have an ocean nearby, don’t worry. Lots of jewelry making suppliers sell shells, especially vendors who sell gemstone items. Now, of course, it can be kind of tricky to find two shells that match, but these don’t have to be exact duplicates. Remember they will eventually end up on either side of your head, so a little difference in shells won’t be noticeable.

You’ll need:

2 shells with holes
2 pieces 1 foot each white waxed linen cord
*2 – 10mm white Dichroic lampwork beads
2 gold-filled ear hooks
Pliers
Scissors
Ruler
Mod Podge
Foam brush
Wax paper

*The lampwork beads for this project came from glass artist, D.D. Hess.
